Metformin doesn't really work that way, no. Metformin doesn't affects the food you eat. But, carbs aren't by definition bad. Whole plant based is a high carb diet, but often super successful in treating type 2 because of the type of food it focuses on. Make sure you're taking it with food. Your doctor should have started you on a low dose to build your tolerance. For example, 500mg once a day for a week, then 500mg 2x a day. Then blood work after a certain amount of time to see if you need a higher dose.
