Then the starter went bad, so it sat for a week until i got the new starter in. I had to remove the beltcase and also the flywheel on the other side of the motor, so that I could get the new starter motor and gear in. Pull the plug and see what it looks like now. If it's saturated with oil, you're going to cause more harm than running it like it's meant to be ran. I personally wouldn't even try to mess with it, but if you feel like rebuilding the motor every couple weeks, go ahead and do it.The problem more than likely will be the shift linkage. It can be adjusted. It has to be set just right. The rod end at the shifter will be left hand thread. Disconnect the rods from the shifter. I think it is hung up in 2 gears low and reverse. Yep the air screw should start at 1 1/2 turns out. And idle should be at about 700rpm. You will just have to adjust the idle by sound I presume you do not have a tach.
